| ![]() | What's New Tom Bloyd These wonderful creatures are the imaginative work of Tom Bloyd. While pursuing a degree in metalsmithing from the University of Kansas, Tom Bloyd took an elective course in glassblowing and he became fascinated with the spontaneity of the medium. He likes to experiment with different color patterns on the interior and the exterior of a piece, to explore form in molten glass and to add depth by layering color on clear glass. With his magnificent birds, he combines his abilities of sculpting metal with blowing glass. Hand forged steel and vibrantly colored hand blown glass birds combine to create a movement and blance that he hopes to capture in all of his work. For him, glass and metal share a unique balance. In his own words, "The color combinations and designs that I apply today are a culmination of over 14 years of exploration. Even after a lifetime of working in this medium, I know that I will only scratch the surface on all of the possibilities it presents."
