Artists of the Month

April Wagner and Jason Ruff

April and Jason pair non-traditional sculpting methods they specifically developed with a combination of traditional Venetian glassblowing techniques. Called the “fazzoletto” style, the technique originated in the Venini factory of Italy and was made famous by Seattle glass artists. April and Jason work the glass in a controlled free-form manner, without the use of molds. Instead, they use gravity, centrifugal force, and temperature as they sculpt the glass the solid glass bits onto the exterior body of a piece, to create their masterpiece.

Their unwavering and humbling belief that glass is an astonishing and fascinating material provides the perfect road for their artist journey.
